Every single candlestick on a trading chart is a visual story of a battle between buyers and sellers within a specific timeframe (1 min, 1 hour, or 1 day). Discover exactly how price ticks transform into bodies and wicks.
Buyers won the session. The price ended higher than where it started when the timer rang.
Sellers won the session. The price ended lower than where it started when the timer rang.
Whether a candle is 1-minute long or 1-month long, it records only 4 specific price levels during that interval.
Notice that for a Green candle, the OPEN is at the bottom of the body, and the CLOSE is at the top of the body.
Notice that for a Red candle, the OPEN is at the top of the body, and the CLOSE is at the bottom of the body.
From the first second the timer starts until the final tick when it expires:
The new time period begins (e.g. 9:15 AM). The very first transaction price establishes the OPEN benchmark. At this exact millisecond, there is no body, just a single horizontal dash.
Price fluctuates up and down. While price is trading above Open, the candle paints temporarily green. If it sinks below Open, it instantly flips to red.
If price pushed up to $150 but retreated to $130, the $150 level leaves a thin upper line (wick / shadow). It records how far buyers or sellers ventured before being pushed back.
The timeframe period ends. The final transaction becomes the CLOSE. The color locks permanently: Green if Close > Open, Red if Close < Open.

A green candle doesn't only mean "price went straight up." The internal path taken defines trader psychology.
Complete buyer dominance from start to finish. Virtually zero wicks.
Sellers attacked hard, but buyers defended and completely reversed the move.
A volatile tug-of-war where bulls managed to hold a tiny positive gain.
A red candle signifies that the session closed beneath its inception point. Here is how sellers construct their victory.
Pure unmitigated selling pressure. Bulls were completely non-existent.
Buyers attempted a breakout rally, were rejected aggressively, and lost.
Opens higher than the previous session's high, but collapses down to bury it completely.
